AnnualPact (24 posts)
Introducing a new formulation of Pact, over the whole of 2019 I will fit musical creativity into my schedule and document it in a weekly post.

Create A Week: Prologue
Anybody following the progress of my Pacting (which I imagine would be a number that rhymes with "beer-o") would have noticed something about the year of 2018: no CreativePact undertaken by Adam Jansch.

Starting the S5000
AnnualPact underway! Fabulously aware that I've had a recently refurbished Akai S5000 sitting in my studio unused for months, this week I fired it up and got sampling.
-
Building a library
A continuation of working with the S5000, and specifically the Bath Wurlitzer sample I captured last week. With that I created two new sample programs which are both pads (an example of one attached below).
-
2 (equipment) steps forward, 1 (equipment) step back
This week I expanded my equipment usage beyond the S5000 to two other pieces yet to see any use in my studio. Good news: one was cool; bad news: one was not.
-
(G)all the way
One thing unified this week's creative action: the golden flute of James Galway.
-
And the (Gersh)winner is...
More sampling. This time from a George Gershwin LP I had transferred the week before. While it played I made a mental note of the end of side A having some choice material, and headed straight there.
-
A quiet week
The title explains it all. A wrench was placed in my week in the form of being ill. But really that's a flimsy excuse, as my creativity sessions occurred before that.
-
The Zoyd is back in town
This week I switched tack to focus on a well-progressed project that, if you have any experience of my previous CreativePacts, you will have heard of.
-
Lyrics and Long Plays
Another disrupted week, but I tried to make the most of it (and along the way passed a milestone).
-
Farthest Trex 1
Following from last week, I continued working on the track Farthest Trex. It was nice to spend some time focussed on one thing.
-
Juno what's going on?
I do. Working on another Dorian Zoyd track called Polymer.
-
Maschining
This week I switched it up again and plunged into some Maschining.
-
Playlisting
I'll be honest, I don't remember what I did on my first creativity session this week.
-
Lyricising
As promised last week I spent some time lyric writing this week.
-
More lyrics, less creativity
I did manage some creativity this week, but not much. (Time was taken up by sorting out the app sore submission of the latest version of TapeLister, my cassette prototyping app for Mac.)
-
wurlinoise
Another slender week, creativity-wise. But it was some good creativity, so that brings it back.
-
Directions
This week I continued on from last week by working further on "wurlinoise". This consisted of separating out the two main parts in the timeline, which changed the structure of piece to A-B; after that, both sections were developed sonically.
-
Words and software
A quick one this week, as time was tight. I did a session of lyric writing, on "Farthest Trex", which was solid. I was able to make good progress on the second section of the song; this probably needs a session or two more to solidify.
-
Just words
You thought last week's post was quick. This one will be even quicker. Because I did another lyrics session which wasn't particularly notable for anything.
-
Layton & Johnstone & The Caretaker
Audio! I did some audio this week! It is attached! This makes this post more interesting than of late.
-
AnnualPact parameters updated
The time has come. I've realised the real truth is that I just don't have time for creativity at the moment. I've tried to push a creative line this year, but I don't have a single project strong enough for me to continue weekly.

Farthest Trex vocal recording
It's been a couple of months, but a completely free afternoon allowed me some vocal recording time. And the target project? Farthest Trex.
-
30s piano loop
It has been quite a while, but I did log some hours this week building loops in the S5000. Of those, the one that stood out is this one, created from a recording from an LP of 30s music.

An ‑otronic end of year
One year, one failed AnnualPact. But I did finish the year by opening Maschine and starting on some new ‑otron material.
