Automaton intro score
Finally I began the process of notating the intro to Automaton. As has become the standard in this Pact, I started by making some written notes on how to approach this.
Some characteristics about the intro: it has notes that have to happen in a certain order but the timing is not specific; there are, however, certain elements across the staves that need to be synchronised; there are also some sections of improvisation.
For the first characteristic I decided to forgo note stems, using just crochet heads (there is a "stemless" option in MuseScore available via the Bar Properties menu). To regain cross-stave synching for specific notes I realised that horizontal alignment reinforced by a dashed vertical line should suffice. Lastly, for improvisation I settled on a bracketed note cluster system, showing which notes are allowable.
I did get around to starting this in MuseScore, but I need a bit more time to figure out how to add the additional graphics (it'll probably have to be done using PNGs). We shall find out in the coming days.
