Automaton vocal comping
Can you guess what I did today for CreativePact? That's right, as anticipated I got on and comped the vocals recorded yesterday.
When comping in Logic I start by using quick swipe (I did record in loop mode, didn't I?) to choose the best bits from the takes. Once swiped, I'll copy that comped take folder onto a new track, invoke Flatten (and delete), then tidy up the comp – typically by setting new start/end points and getting nifty with fades. (The green tracks in the image above are the comped tracks.)
The reason I copy the take folder is that if there's an edit that just doesn't work (usually a crossfade) I can head back to the original comp to select another take. Once all the comps are edited I'll bounce the separate tracks, ready to import into the main song Logic project. (FYI, I tend to do all my vocal recording in a new Logic project using a bounce of the song file.)
