I sat down in my studio today initially with the plan to work on either Automaton's computer voices part or the live saxophone part. I ended up doing neither, instead being sucked into working on the transition between sections 7 and 8.
This particular transition is an interesting one, as section 7's vocal line gets pushed back in the mix gradually and continues behind section 8's vocal, which assumes front and centre. As such there needed to be some continuation but also some change between the sections; figuring out how to handle this was the challenge. In the end I developed a new ride cymbal part to replace the incumbent tambourine, allying that with some volume fades on the keyboard parts.
Before I know that this was the way to go I'll need to hear it all again, as I listened to that transition way too many times today. But that won't be tomorrow because I head to London to have a session with Union Chapel's organ. This should help me nail down the organ score a bit more.
