Mastering mastering
For this, the final session of Prism Fission, I tried my mastering workflow on Prism Exhilarated's first track ‘Hxxr’. My plan is not to go to town on mastering here, but to make sure the volume of the album is solid and consistent, and to ensure mono compatibility is adequate.
With Hxxr, this equalled applying some limiters to parts whose peaks were dragging the overall amplitude of the track down, and to remove the mono-spoiling MicroShift effect from the main speech part.
I was able to get the track to the point where I could record the audio components required. Next will be to get those parts into Studio One, sync them, level them up a bit, and export them for the Python software.
The pact may be over, but there's plenty left to do. I plan to write a summary post in about a week, to reflect on how everything went. Until then, adios.
