Taking material generation to a more granular level, I will spend this CreativePact building a sampling-centred soundboard in Ableton Live.

Mornings

29/08/16

This is the first Pact session in a few where I've not been time constrained, and hallelujah! it's a good feeling. Two parts came from this session, though they were based off a single seed – they were only separated to allow for a more straightforward use in the Set.

I started with the Analog patch called "Soft Morning", quickly finding a suitable quasi-arpeggiatted sequence to fit in with the current Goldpiano-based idea. This patch routes its two oscillators equally between two filter/amp chains, and this is where the part split came from: following some filter tweaking I felt the need to treat the two paths to different effects.

At first I set up an Instrument Rack loaded with two Analogs, each with one of the filter chains muted. Once I had developed the parts a bit more (with the use of Soundtoys Crystallizer on one part a change to my typical effects set up) I felt that, in this case, controlling both Analogs from one set of clips would make mixing the two parts unnecessarily complex.

In this scenario, having Analogs on two channels (and hence two sets of clips) and grouping them seemed like a smarter move, as this also allows launching of clips of individual tracks or the group tracks from Push (let's just hope I don't need to automate effects on the Group track...).
