Mixing CQ saxophone
Slowly but surely in this pact I've been ticking off some of the significant musical goals on my extensive to-do list. This time around it was mixing the saxophone part to 'CQ'.
When arranging the material the plan was to have four streams of saxophone playing at once, which gave me enough material for 4 unique process options; switching stereo staging of the four streams between two positions would then be used to give me the 8 options I required.
When mixing, it was obvious that four streams would be too many. The solution was simple, however: the two streams staged furthest from the centre could be muted, and because of the staging switch I wouldn't lose any unique options. Pukka.
If you've followed any of my most recent mixing antics, you'll know I'm a fan of the Soundtoys suite. There was no difference here: FilterFreak and EchoBoy Jr. make an appearance, alongside reverb from Valhalla VintageVerb.
What I've posted here is option 1. I like what I hear, but I'll listen back to the mix in the next couple of days to confirm.
